When it comes to the UK rap scene, its either very mainstream or very underground. You've got the likes of Skepta, JME etc, still doing there thing on the grime scene still, but now there is a new wave of Hip-Hop. With skinny jeans, his lip pierced, Master Shortie has sprung up from on his own with his class music being recognised, without himself pushing too hard to get recognition. The 20 year old LDN boy has just got that natural class, which not a lot of artists in the UK have got. He is promoting himself as the unsterotypical UK rapper. He has said in one of his videos "when it comes to swagga I'm one of the founded fathers" I think he is true! His swagg is making all the LDN kids go crazy and just making them be themselves without conforming.
His songs have an electro feel to it which makes him stand out that tad bit more. He hasn't officially released a single yet but the hype that is building up is showing. Having a few of his own gigs at the Roundhouse and at the Indigo o2 Arena, his fan base is growing very quickly. Supporting Basement Jaxx on their UK tour has also diversified his fan base a bit more. Appearing on "Big Brother's Big Mouth" was a shock to me, but he looked dead comfortable and it was a good look for him performing on there.
When it comes to new up and coming artists I turn in to a mad groupie! I won a competition of Master Shortie's and also got a shout out on twitter, and had a little talk to him on facebook chat(If that was him!)This really turned me into a mad groupie! Being "underrated" as he calls himself will be wearing off soon, as no doubt when his single "Dead End" drops he should be a huge success. Also to come from Master Shortie is his debut album "A.D.H.D". It is a promising debut album from Master Shortie. He sure won't be a one hit wonder. His track collection that he has put together from the past couple of years have been very positive.
It is nice to see a UK Hip-Hop/Rapper/Indie-Kid giving out love instead of hard talking about his postcode and not becoming a cheap "Channel AKA/U" artist. This artist would sure be a pleasure to work with, his attitude is very uplifting and it seems like he knows what he can achieve and his success won't change him. He is definiently an artist to keep an ear and eye out for.
All the best to him.
